CHELSEA & DISTRICT BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES KERRYN MITCHELL AS NEW GENERAL MANAGER

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHELSEA, VIC – The Chelsea & District Basketball Association (CADBA) is excited to announce the appointment of Kerryn Mitchell as its new General Manager. Her extensive experience in basketball and deep connection to CADBA make her an exceptional fit for this role.

Kerryn's involvement in basketball started at CADBA when she joined the Spirits Basketball Club as a seven-year-old, where her first coach was Wayne Mills (CADBA Life Member). Her junior career included representing Victoria Country at the U/18 National Championships (1990 & 1991) and Victoria at the U/20 National Championships (1992 & 1993), as well as earning selection in the Gems Squad (1990–1993).

At the senior level, Kerryn was a premier point guard in the WNBL during a career that saw her play for the Nunawading Spectres, Dandenong Rangers, Hobart Islanders, and Perth Breakers. Most notably, she captained the Canberra Capitals, earning team MVP honours in 1995 and consecutive Best Defensive Player awards. Kerryn also took her talents to Europe, playing in the top championship divisions in both the Netherlands and Hungary.

Over the years, Kerryn’s passion for basketball has evolved into a highly successful career in coaching and sports administration. Since 2020, she has served as the Basketball Academy Head Coach, Program Director, and Curriculum Creator at Flinders Community Christian College, where she built foundational programs from the ground up. Her administrative credentials include a five-year tenure as the Junior Girls Coordinator for the Frankston Blues. Furthermore, her elite coaching resume features stints as an assistant coach in the WNBL with the Southside Flyers, the NBL1 head coach of the Sandringham Sabres, a coach at the prestigious NBA Academy Next Generation Camp in Florida, and the head coach who led the Victorian Under-20 Women’s State team to national Gold. In 2022, she was named Youth League 1 Coach of the Year after steering the Frankston Blues to a Championship victory.

In addition to her playing and coaching experience, Kerryn brings a strong academic and professional foundation to the role. She holds a Bachelor of Education (Primary) with Honours from Monash University and has built extensive leadership and management skills through years of physical education teaching and sports coordination. Kerryn has also completed numerous professional development programs, including Basketball Australia’s Performance Coach (Level 3) accreditation, the Basketball Victoria Courage and Confidence to Lead program, the Women Leaders in Sport Workshop, and Basketball Australia’s Emerging Female Coach Advancement Program. This impressive background, combined with her technical acumen, positions Kerryn as a highly qualified professional ready to lead our operations.

Throughout her career, Kerryn has consistently showcased a wide range of skills essential to the effective management of basketball organisations. Her deep expertise in high-performance structures, athlete pathways, curriculum creation, and club administration will be invaluable in ensuring the smooth running and growth of our domestic and representative competitions. Kerryn is well known and highly respected across the Victorian basketball landscape. Her strong communication skills, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to basketball have established her as a trusted figure within the community. These qualities, combined with her complete understanding of grassroots through to high-level basketball operations, make her a natural fit for the role of General Manager.

Kerryn said, “Being involved in community sport has always been a great passion of mine. I’m incredibly excited to work closely with the CADBA community to leverage my experiences as a player, coach, and administrator to continue enhancing the basketball experience for all our participants.”

Alicia Parker, the CADBA Secretary, said, "We're so excited to welcome Kerryn Mitchell as our new General Manager. She brings a huge wealth of basketball knowledge, leadership, and a deep understanding of community sport to our association. Kerryn's established relationships within the Victorian basketball network will no doubt prove invaluable as we continue to grow and develop our basketball programs here at Chelsea.”
